Elk Lake vs. Susquehanna

On Saturday night at Blue Ridge, the Sabers fell to the Elk Lake Warriors 82-47 in the championship game of the Susquehanna County/Denise Reddon Memorial Christmas Tournament.  With the loss, the Sabers fall to 3-4, 0-0 on the year as they get set to begin Lackawanna League Division IV play. 

Luke Falletta scored 10 points and hauled down 5 rebounds and joined Elk Lake's Tanner Reyan and Matt Woolcock, Montrose's Eric Burgh and Blue Ridge's Austin Darrow on the all-tournament team. 

Josh Wheeler scored a team-high 11 points, freshman Tyler Williams scored 9 points and Mark Zappe added 8 points.  Austin Felter dished out a career-high 7 assists and Christian Miller hauled in 6 rebounds to lead the team.

The Sabers will travel to Forest City on Thursday night to take on the Foresters.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Blue Ridge

The Sabers earned a spot in the Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament championship game on Friday night by defeating the host Blue Ridge Raiders 56-47 to improve their season record to 3-3, 0-0. 

Luke Falletta and Josh Wheeler both tallied 15 points each, while Christian Miller recorded a double/double with 10 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.  Senior Brandon Soden chipped in with 4 assists to help the team to victory. 

The Sabers will face off against the Elk Lake Warriors on Saturday night.  Game time is 7:30 PM.

Susquehanna at Northwest

On Friday night, the starting frontcourt trio of Mark Zappe (14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks), Christian Miller (11 points, 6 rebounds) and Luke Falletta (5 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists) led a strong team effort as the Sabers (2-3, 0-0) captured their first road victory of the season. 

Josh Wheeler chipped in with 12 points and 3 assists, Brandon Soden scored 6 points and Austin Felter dished out 3 assists off the bench.

In the JV game, Northwest scored a 40-35 victory over the Sabers.  Tyler Williams led the Sabers with 12 points while Garret Grausgruber added 10 points.

The Sabers are off until December 27th, when they face off against Blue Ridge in the semi-finals of the Susquehanna County Holiday Tournament at Blue Ridge.  Game time is 7:30 PM.

Wyoming Seminary vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams were able to secure a split with the Wyoming Seminary Blue Knights on Wednesday night, with the JV picking up their first win of the season 36-34 and the Varsity suffering a 68-66 loss. 

Josh Wheeler's career-high 28 points were not enough for the Sabers (1-3, 0-0) as the Blue Knights picked up a come from behind win in the nightcap.  Senior Mark Zappe put together a solid night with 9 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds, while Christian's Miller's 8 rebounds led the team.  Austin Felter contributed 8 points off the bench in defeat. 

The JV Sabers were able to pick up their first win of the season behind a complete team effort as Tyler Williams (9 points), Jack Avery (9 points), Brady Towner (8 points) and Garret Grausgruber (6 points) all contributed to a balanced attack. 

The Sabers will travel to Northwest Area on Friday night for their first road test of the season.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Mountain View vs. Susquehanna

The Mt. View Eagles claimed the 1st Annual Sabers Shootout Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 54-47 victory over the Sabers.  With the loss, the Sabers fall to 1-2, 0-0 on the season. 

Mark Zappe led the Sabers with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Josh Wheeler contributed 16 points and 3 assists.  Junior Luke Falletta pulled down a team high 10 rebounds to go with his 4 assists, while Brandon Soden also contributed 8 rebounds.  Wheeler's efforts were enough for him to garner a spot on the all-tournament team.

Joining Josh Wheeler on the all-tournament team were Derek Bradley (MVP--Mt. View), Brett Crowley (Mt. View), Roman Nedd (ES-Notre Dame) and Christian Prieto (Pocono Mt. Charter).

In the JV game, the Eagles scored a 47-37 victory over the Sabers with Tyler Williams leading the team with a total of 16 points. 

The Sabers will host Wyoming Seminary on Tuesday night.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Pocono Mountain Charter vs. Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Sabers Varsity basketball secured their first victory of the 2013-2014 basketball season on Friday night, as they earned a 71-43 victory over Pocono Mountain Charter School in the semifinals of the Sabers Shootout. 

Senior Brandon Soden scored 9 of his 15 points during a 23-4 third quarter run as the Sabers (1-1, 0-0) opened up a 32 point lead after three quarters on their way to the win. 

Luke Falletta led the Sabers with 16 points, Josh Wheeler added 11 points and 9 assists and Christian Miller led the way inside with 9 point and 8 rebounds. 

The Sabers will face the Mountain View Eagles in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.  Game time is set for 2:00 PM.

Lakeland vs. Susquehanna

After Friday night's postponement at NE Bradford, the Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams were forced to wait five more days to open their season.  When they did on Tuesday night, the visiting Lakeland Chiefs were able to earn two wins over the Sabers.

In the JV game, the Sabers got 12 points from Jack Avery, 9 points from Tyler Williams and 8 points from Garret Grausgruber, but it was not enough as the Chiefs won by the final score of 50-35.

In the Varsity game, the Sabers found themselves down 14 points at the start of the 4th Quarter, only to claw their way back and pull to within 2 points with 1:09 to go in the game.  The Sabers valiant effort was not enough as the Chiefs hit their free throws to finish out a 55-49 victory.

Season Opener at Northeast Bradford

The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams will begin the 2013-2014 regular season on Friday, December 6th at Northeast Bradford High School.  The JV game will begin at 6:00 PM.

Boys Basketball Cash Raffle

Members of the Sabers Boys Basketball teams grades 7-12 are currently selling raffle tickets to help raise funds for team sneakers and other gear that will need to be purchased during the upcoming season. 

Tickets are $10 each, with cash prizes in the amounts of $250, $200, $150, $100 and $50 to be awarded on Friday, November 1st.

The "New" Gym Floor

Over the past three weeks, the Susquehanna High School gymnasium has been receiving a makeover, with the gym floor being completely sanded down and re-painted for the first time since 1981.  Below are some photos of the progress:

All-Stars

Susquehanna senior guard Andrzej Tomczyk has been named to the Lackawanna League Division IV Coaches All-Star First Team.  Andrzej averaged 19 points, 4.6 assists and 4 rebounds per game this season in leading the Sabers to a 13-11 record.  Andrzej finished his varsity career with 1511 points.



In addition, Susquehanna senior forward Cole Mallery was named as an honorable mention first-team all star after averaging 18 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  Cole finished his varsity career with 1130 points.

Old Forge vs. Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Sabers were unable to win their second straight PIAA D2 A Championship on Friday night as they fell to the Old Forge Blue Devils 47-42 at Scranton Prep High School.  The Sabers finished the season with a 13-11, 6-6 record. 

Playing in their final game in white and royal, seniors Cole Mallery (17 points, 14 rebounds), Zack Vaughn (6 points, 6 rebounds), Dan Biegert (4 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) and Andrzej Tomczyk (6 points, 2 assists) led the Sabers in defeat.  Junior Josh Wheeler scored 7 points off the bench, while junior Mark Zappe hauled in 6 rebounds.

MMI Prep vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers boys basketball team secured a spot in the PIAA D2 A Championship game on Wednesday night by defeating MMI Prep 48-43 at Scranton High School.  With the win, the Sabers improved to 13-10, 6-6 on the season.

Senior Cole Mallery scored 33 points and pulled down 8 rebounds to lead the Sabers.  Also, Andrzej Tomczyk scored 7 points, including the 1500th of his career, and handed out 10 assists.

Blue Ridge vs. Susquehanna

On Senior Night 2013, the Susquehanna Sabers boys basketball teams were able to earn a split in their final regular season games of the season against the Blue Ridge Raiders.

In the JV game, Luke Falletta's 19 points were not enough as the Sabers lost 46-42 to finish their season with a 10-9 record.  Steve Frye contributed 8 points for the Sabers. 

In the varsity game, seniors Andrzej Tomczyk (28 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds), Cole Mallery (29 points, 11 rebounds) and Dan Biegert (6 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists) led the way as the Sabers defeated the Raiders 74-63 to finish the regular season at 12-10, 6-6.  Junior Josh Wheeler contributed 9 points, while senior Zack Vaughn went a perfect 2-2 at the foul line to along with 3 rebounds and 3 steals. 

Senior Andrzej Tomczyk recorded 28 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds in Wednesday night's home win over Blue Ridge.

The Sabers now wait to find out their opponent for the PIAA D2 Class A playoffs, which begin on Tuesday, February 26th.

Susquehanna vs. Elk Lake

The JV and Varsity boys basketball teams lost a pair of games on the road Tuesday night against the Elk Lake Warriors.

In the JV game, the Sabers got out to a quick start, but failed to hold the lead, eventually falling by the score of 55-39 to see their season record fall to 10-8.  Luke Falletta led the Sabers with 22 points while Steve Frye contributed 9 points. 

In the nightcap, the Sabers scored the final five points of regulation to tie the game at 55, but eventually came up short against the Warriors in overtime by the score of 71-59.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored 19 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Dan Biegert (14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists) and Cole Mallery (10 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles for the Sabers (11-10, 5-6).  Zack Vaughn and Josh Wheeler each contributed 7 points to round out the scoring. 

The Sabers finish their regular season on Wednesday night at home against the Blue Ridge Raiders.  JV game time is 6:00 PM, with senior recognition to proceed the varsity game.

Old Forge vs. Susquehanna

In a game originally scheduled to be played Friday night, the Sabers lost two games to the visiting Old Forge Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon.  The JV team saw their season record fall to 10-7 with a 32-18 loss, while the Varsity team lost 62-59 to move to 11-9, 5-5 on the season.

Luke Falletta's 8 points led the JV team in a game that was very slow-paced for much of the first three quarters.  Zach Collins and Austin Felter each hit three pointers for the Sabers.

Leading by 3 with 20 seconds to go, the Sabers varsity team watched Old Forge's David Chromey knock down 2 three-pointers, the final one at the buzzer, as the Sabers lost a hard fought game.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored 24 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists while Cole Mallery contributed 21 points on 9-12 shooting.  Dan Biegert scored 6 points to go with 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Zack Vaughn contributed 6 points on a perfect 3-3 shooting. 

Senior Cole Mallery scored 21 points on Sunday afternoon against Old Forge.

The Sabers travel to Elk Lake on Monday night to face the division leading Warriors.  JV Game time is 6:00 PM.

Lackawanna Trail vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers boys basketball teams scored two wins on Wednesday night over the visiting Lackawanna Trail Lions, with the JV winning 34-31 and the varsity winning 75-60. 

In the JV game, Steve Frye scored 11 points, Luke Falletta tallied 8 points and Austin Felter scored 7 as the Sabers moved to 10-6 on the season.  Cody Towers also contributed 6 points for the Sabers.

In the nightcap, the varsity team jumped out to an early lead in route to a 75-60 win.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored 33 points to go with 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to lead the Sabers (11-8, 5-5).  Dan Biegert chimed in with 16 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds while Cole Mallery scored 14 points to go with 8 rebounds. 

Andrzej Tomczyk led the Sabers on Wednesday night with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.
The Sabers host Old Forge on Friday night.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Mountain View vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers JV boys basketball team held on Monday night against the Mountain View Eagles to secure a 46-43 victory.  The win moves the JV team to 9-6 on the season.  Luke Falletta scored 18 points to lead the Sabers, while Austin Felter contributed 8 points and Kasey Burdick 6 points.

In the nightcap, Cole Mallery's 16 points and 11 rebounds included his 1,000th career varsity point in the Sabers 54-41 victory.  Dan Biegert contributed 8 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, Andrzej Tomczyk scored 15 points to go along with 6 assists and 4 steals and Josh Wheeler scored all 7 of his points in the 4th quarter when the Sabers outscored the Eagles 16-1.

The win pushes the Sabers season record to 10-8, 4-5.

Susquehanna vs. Montrose

On Friday night, the Susquehanna Sabers traveled to Montrose to take on the Meteors in a Lackawanna Division IV contest.  The JV team suffered a 42-20 defeat, while the varsity team lost 61-56.

In the JV game, the Sabers found themselves in a 25-3 deficit at halftime.  Despite playing much better in the second half, they saw their season record fall to 8-6.  Steve Frye led the Sabers with 6 points. 

In the nightcap, Andrzej Tomczyk's 22 points were not enough as the Sabers lost a tight game to see their season record fall to (9-8, 3-5).  Cole Mallery contributed 18 points, while Zack Vaughn pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Sabers are at home on Monday night against the Mountain View Eagles.  Game time is 6:00 PM.

Sabers vs. Cancer

As part of the 2013 Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches vs. Cancer campaign, the Susquehanna Sabers boys and girls basketball teams will be having two PINK OUT games at the high school.

The Lady Sabers will host the Montrose Lady Meteors on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM. 

The Sabers will host the Lackawanna Trail Lions on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM.

Sabers vs. Cancer t-shirts will be for sale, along with Coaches vs. Cancer wristbands and raffle chances for a blanket decked out in pink and white!  Stop by and support the Lady Sabers and Sabers basketball teams and make a donation to the American Cancer Society!

Susquehanna vs. Forest City

The Susquehanna Sabers boy's basketball team began the second half of Lackawanna League Division IV play by recording two victories over Forest City on Tuesday night.

In the JV game, Luke Falletta's 18 points led the Sabers (8-5) to a 39-36 win.  Steve Frye contributed 9 points for the Sabers. 

In the varsity game, Andrzej Tomczyk scored a game-high 25 points to go with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.  Cole Mallery scored 22 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, Dan Biegert handed out a season-high 10 assists to go along with 7 rebounds and Zack Vaughn recorded 9 rebounds in the Sabers (9-7, 3-4) win.

The Sabers travel to Montrose on Friday night to take on the Meteors.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Blue Ridge

The Susquehanna Sabers basketball teams completed the first half of league play on Tuesday night, losing both games to the Blue Ridge Raiders.

The JV team found themselves in an early hole, but worked their way out of it in the second half and had a chance to tie the game late, eventually losing 40-37 to see their season record fall to 7-5.  Luke Falletta led the Sabers with 19 points.

In the nightcap, the Sabers suffered through a 25% shooting night, eventually losing to the Raiders 52-43 to see their season record fall to 8-7, 2-4.  Cole Mallery led the Sabers with 24 points and 16 rebounds.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored 10 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 4 assists.

Elk Lake vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers boy's basketball team was able to earn a split with the Elk Lake Warriors on Friday night, with the JV team earning a 46-44 victory and the Varsity team suffering a 65-43 defeat.

In the JV game, Austin Felter hit 2 free throws with 7 seconds remaining to give the Sabers (7-4) the winning margin.  Felter scored 10 points in the game.  Luke Falletta led the team with 17 points, while Steve Frye contributed 15. 

In the nightcap, Cole Mallery's 21 points and 9 rebounds were not enough, as the Sabers fell to 8-6, 2-3 on the season.  Andrzej Tomczyk contributed 12 points, 3 assists and 3 steals, while Dan Biegert collected 8 rebounds.  Zach Vaughn hauled in 5 rebounds off the bench. 

The Sabers travel to Blue Ridge on Tuesday night to take on the Raiders.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Old Forge

The Sabers boy's basketball teams both suffered losses on Tuesday night at the hands of the Old Forge Blue Devils. 

The JV team got off to a slow start and never recovered, eventually falling by the score of 44-23.  Luke Falletta scored 11 points while Kasey Burdick recorded 8 for the Sabers (6-4).

In the varsity game, the Sabers (8-5, 2-2) found themselves in a 12 point halftime hole and could not dig themselves out, falling 62-48 to the Blue Devils.  Cole Mallery scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double.  Andrzej Tomczyk added 10 points and 4 assists, while Dan Biegert contributed 7 points and 3 assists.

The Sabers host the Elk Lake Warriors on Friday night.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Mountain View

The Sabers basketball team rediscovered the winning formula on Friday night at Mountain View as both teams recorded wins over the Eagles.

The trio of Austin Felter (15 points), Luke Falletta (15 points) and Steve Frye (13 points) led the JV team (6-3) to a 51-44 victory. 

In the varsity game, Andrzej Tomczyk scored 24 points to go along with 5 steals and 4 assists, while Cole Mallery recored a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Josh Wheeler contributed 10 points, Dan Biegert handed out 5 assists and Mark Zappe hauled in 6 rebounds for the Sabers (8-4, 2-2). 

The Sabers are off until Tuesday when they travel to Old Forge to take on the Blue Devils.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Montrose vs. Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Sabers boy's basketball team hosted Montrose on Tuesday night and suffered two defeats, with the JV team falling 55-37 and the Varsity losing 70-57.

The JV team (5-3) found themselves in a tight ball game in the second half, only to fade late in their 55-37 loss. Luke Falletta and Steve Frye each scored 9 points for the Sabers.

Andrzej Tomczyk led the Sabers (7-4, 1-2) with 30 points, 4 steals and 3 assists in the nightcap, but it wasn't enough in the 70-57 defeat.  Josh Wheeler added 11 points, while Mark Zappe recorded a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Sabers are off until Friday when they travel to Mountain View to play the Eagles.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna at Lackawanna Trail

The Sabers boys basketball teams earned a split in their games at Lackawanna Trail on Saturday afternoon with the JV team securing a 35-22 win, while the varsity suffered a 66-64 overtime defeat.

The JV Sabers (5-2) were led by Luke Falletta's game high 14 points.  Nate Carpenter added 6 points while Kyle MacDonald recorded 5 points.

On the varsity level, the Sabers (7-3, 1-1) were unable to hold onto a 14 point second half lead, eventually falling in OT by the score of 66-64.  Andrzej Tomczyk recorded 23 points and 4 assists while Cole Mallery recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 4 steals.  Dan Biegert, whose three-pointer forced overtime with 9 seconds left, also secured 8 rebounds.  Josh Wheeler scored 12 points, including 2 three-pointers.

The Sabers are off until Tuesday night when they face the Montrose Meteors at home.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Forest City vs. Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Sabers boys basketball teams both opened up Lackawanna League Division IV play with wins on Thursday night at home against the Forest City Foresters. 

The JV team was led by Steve Frye and Austin Felter, who both scored 10 points in the 48-38 victory.  Evan Stone and Luke Falletta both contributed 7 points each for the Sabers (4-2). 

In the nightcap, the varsity used a 23-10 4th quarter run on their way to a 67-50 victory.  Cole Mallery's double-double (25 points, 13 rebounds) and Andrzej Tomczyk's 16 points and 8 assists led the Sabers (7-2, 1-0).  Big men Mark Zappe and Zack Vaughn combined for 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Josh Wheeler added 9 points.

The Sabers travel to Lackawanna Trail on Saturday to take on the Lions.  JV game time is 1:00 PM.
