Lakeland vs. Susquehanna

After Friday night's postponement at NE Bradford, the Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams were forced to wait five more days to open their season.  When they did on Tuesday night, the visiting Lakeland Chiefs were able to earn two wins over the Sabers.

In the JV game, the Sabers got 12 points from Jack Avery, 9 points from Tyler Williams and 8 points from Garret Grausgruber, but it was not enough as the Chiefs won by the final score of 50-35.

In the Varsity game, the Sabers found themselves down 14 points at the start of the 4th Quarter, only to claw their way back and pull to within 2 points with 1:09 to go in the game.  The Sabers valiant effort was not enough as the Chiefs hit their free throws to finish out a 55-49 victory.

The Sabers (0-1, 0-0) were led by seniors Josh Wheeler (16 points, 4 assists) and Mark Zappe (12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks).  Junior Luke Falletta also contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds.

The Sabers are off until this Friday and Saturday when they host the 1st Annual Sabers Shootout Tournament.  The Varsity team plays Pocono Mountain Charter School at 8:00 PM.
