The Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams were able to secure a split with the Wyoming Seminary Blue Knights on Wednesday night, with the JV picking up their first win of the season 36-34 and the Varsity suffering a 68-66 loss.
Josh Wheeler's career-high 28 points were not enough for the Sabers (1-3, 0-0) as the Blue Knights picked up a come from behind win in the nightcap. Senior Mark Zappe put together a solid night with 9 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds, while Christian's Miller's 8 rebounds led the team. Austin Felter contributed 8 points off the bench in defeat.
The JV Sabers were able to pick up their first win of the season behind a complete team effort as Tyler Williams (9 points), Jack Avery (9 points), Brady Towner (8 points) and Garret Grausgruber (6 points) all contributed to a balanced attack.
The Sabers will travel to Northwest Area on Friday night for their first road test of the season. JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.
