2015 Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament

The Sabers saw their record fall to 1-7, 0-0 on the year as they dropped two games in the 2015 Denise Reddon Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament on December 28 & 29.

On Monday night, the Sabers found themselves in a 16 point hole after one quarter, but slowly dug their way out, eventually forcing two overtimes before succumbing to Blue Ridge 55-52.  Tyler Williams led all scorers in the game with 25 points and 13 rebounds.  Mason Deakin added a career-high 17 points, and joined backcourt mate Garret Grausgruber with a team-high 3 assists.  Bryce Baldwin added 7 points and 6 rebounds.

In Tuesday's consolation game, the Sabers dropped a 57-40 decision to the Elk Lake Warriors.  Williams once again led the Sabers in scoring with 14 points.  Eric Lee and Garret Grausgruber each scored 8 points.  Lee also led the team in rebounding with 6 boards.  Freshmen Adam Rockwell came off the bench and added 4 second half blocks to the effort.

For his efforts, Tyler Williams was named to the all-tournament team along with Elk Lake's Bailey Newhart, Blue Ridge's Austin Harper and Montrose's Chris Guyette and Austin Smith.  Smith was named the tournament MVP.

The Sabers begin Lackawanna League Division IV play on Saturday, January 2nd as they travel to Forest City to take on the Foresters.  JV game time is set for 1:00 PM.

Home vs. Mountain View

After digging themselves out of an early 13-0 deficit, the Sabers (1-5, 0-0) were unable to finish the job on Monday night at home, falling to the Mountain View Eagles by the score of 57-42.  Within 2 points multiple times in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, a 9-0 run by the Eagles in the 3rd quarter put the game out of reach.

Tyler Williams' 21 points led the team, while Mason Deakin handed out a team high 6 assists to go with his 5 points and 5 rebounds.  Fellow freshman Bryce Baldwin scored 9 points and Eric Lee pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.

The JV Sabers were victim to a three point dagger at the buzzer in a 32-29 loss in their contest.  Alex McHugh, who scored a team high 9 points, hit a long two point field goal to tie the game at 29 with under 10 seconds to play.

The Sabers are off until December 28th when they host the Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament.  First round action is against the Blue Ridge Raiders at 7:30 PM.

Home vs. Freedom Village

Tyler Williams recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds and Mason Deakin hit for 16 points on Friday night as the Sabers (1-4, 0-0) varsity squad recorded their first victory of the season over Freedom Village, 62-47.  Bryce Baldwin scored 7 points, Garret Grausgruber contributed 6 and Eric Lee pulled down 6 rebounds.

The Sabers took advantage quickly during an 18-4 first quarter burst in which they hit four three pointers.

The JV Sabers also recorded their first victory of the season by the score of 42-36.  Adam Rockwell and Jarrett Dininny each scored 7 points to lead the Sabers.

The Sabers return to action on Monday night when they host the Mountain View Eagles at 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Wyoming Seminary

Tyler Williams scored 17 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and had 3 steals on Friday night, but the effort was not enough as the Sabers saw their record fall to 0-4, 0-0 on the season in a 51-34 loss to the visit Wyoming Seminary Knights.  Adam Rockwell added 6 points while Garret Grausgruber and Mason Deakin combined for 6 assists.  

Travis Craig's team high 7 points led the way for the Sabers in their 41-19 loss in the JV contest. 

The Sabers return to action on Friday night as they host Freedom Village at 6:00 PM.

Opening Weekend Recap

The Sabers JV Boys Basketball teams opened up their 2015-2016 season with losses at the hands of Sayre and Wyalusing as part of the Raiders Classic, held at Blue Ridge high school on Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday night, Tyler Williams tallied 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Sabers' effort in a 41-38 loss to Sayre.  Mason Deakin contributed 7 points and Adam Rockwell a team high 4 assists.

On Saturday afternoon, the JV Sabers began their season with a loss against Wyalusing.  Travis Craig, Alex McHugh and Jarrett Dininny each scored 5 points.  In the Varsity contest, 28 turnovers led to the demise of the Sabers, who held the Rams to 15 second half points but could not dig their way out of an 18 point halftime deficit in a 47-33 defeat.  Tyler Williams scored 11 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, Bryce Baldwin scored 8 points and secured 5 boards and Adam Rockwell scored 6 points, tallied 8 rebounds and recorded a team high 2 steals.

The Sabers host the Riverside Vikings on Tuesday night in their home opener.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Season Opener

The 2015-2016 regular season will begin for the Sabers boys basketball teams on Friday and Saturday nights in the Raiders Classic at Blue Ridge High School.  On Friday night, the Sabers take on Sayre at 6:00 PM in varsity action only.  Saturday will see the JV Sabers get their season under way at 2:00 against Wyalusing, followed by the same matchup of varsity teams at 3:30.

Scrimmage vs. Wyoming Area

The 2015-2016 version of the Sabers boys basketball team will take to the floor for the first time on Saturday, November 21st for a home scrimmage against Wyoming Area.  The scrimmage is open to all family, friends and supporters of the Sabers basketball program.  Scrimmage time is set for 12:00 noon.

Division All-Stars

Sophomore Tyler Williams was recognized by Lackawanna League Division IV Coaches as an honorable mention all-star for his performance during the 2014-2015 basketball season.  Tyler led the Sabers in scoring (11 PG), rebounding (6.2 PG), steals (1.2 PG) and free throw percentage (86%).  He was the only sophomore named to the team.

District Playoffs vs. MMI Prep

The Susquehanna Sabers saw their 2014-2015 season come to a conclusion on Tuesday night at Pittston Area HS, as the MMI Preppers defeated the Sabers 60-43 to advance in the PIAA D2 A Playoffs.

Sophomore Tyler Williams scored 16 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, including 6 offensive rebounds, while senior Luke Falletta hit 3 three-pointers as part of his 11 point effort.  Senior Christian Miller scored 9 points and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds and Austin Felter handed out a team-high 4 assists.  Senior Brady Towner scored 7 points and Kasey Burdick added two rebounds.

Thank you to all of the players for the hard work they put in and the sacrifices that they made throughout the season, as well as to the parents and fans who supported the team.

Away vs. Forest City

The Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams concluded their regular seasons on Friday night at Forest City by dropping a pair of games to the Foresters.

Brady Towner's 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists were not enough as the Varsity Sabers came up short by the final of 44-40.  Tyler Williams led the team with 12 points, while Christian Miller scored 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.  The team finishes the season with a 5-17, 2-10 record.

Garret Grausgruber scored 11 points and Brock Blodgett scored 10 points in the JV Sabers 47-35 loss.

The Sabers will begin the District II Class A playoffs on Tuesday night against MMI Prep.  The game will be played at Pittston Area High School at 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Mountain View

Despite 13 points and 8 rebounds from Luke Falletta, the Sabers saw their season record slide to 5-16, 2-9 on the season on Thursday night as they dropped a 40-38 decision to the Mountain View Eagles.  Fellow seniors Christian Miller (8 points, 9 rebounds), Austin Felter (8 points, 4 assists), Kasey Burdick (6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Brady Towner (3 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) rounded out the statistical contributions.

Garret Grausgruber's season-high 22 points were not enough as the JV Sabers dropped a 51-47 decision to the Eagles.  Brock Blodgett contributed 8 points.

The Sabers finish out their regular season on Friday night at Forest City.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Blue Ridge

Tyler Williams nailed a foul line jumper with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Sabers a 54-53 victory over the visiting Blue Ridge Raiders on Tuesday night.  The basket proved to be the final difference as the Raiders ensuing inbounds pass was deflected and stolen to seal the victory.

Luke Falletta hit 5 three-pointers on his way to a team-high 18 points.  Williams tallied 17 points, going a perfect 6-6 at the free throw line and Austin Felter handed out a career-high 9 assists.  Christian Miller scored 12 points and Brady Towner pulled down a team-high 5 rebounds.

The team honored seniors Kasey Burdick, Luke Falletta, Austin Felter, Christian Miller, Brad Sherman and Brady Towner before the game as part of the 2015 Senior Night ceremony.

The JV Sabers dropped their content with the Raiders 31-21.  Garret Grausgruber and Christian Burke each scored 7 points for the Sabers.

The Sabers travel to Mountain View on Thursday night to take on the Eagles.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Montrose, Home vs. Elk Lake

The Sabers lost a pair of decisions on Friday and Saturday nights as their record fell to 4-15, 1-8 on the season.  The Montrose Meteors delivered a 61-32 loss on Friday, while the Elk Lake Warriors defeated the Sabers at home on Saturday night 58-42.

Luke Falletta and Tyler Williams combined to score 23 of the 32 points on Friday night against Montrose.  Austin Felter handed out 3 assists.  Falletta pulled down a team high 6 rebounds.

Christian Miller and Tyler Williams each scored 11 points on Saturday night against Elk Lake.  Austin Felter tallied 7 points, while Luke Falletta and Kasey Burdick each scored 6 points.  Williams and Miller each secured 5 rebounds for the Sabers.

The Sabers will host the Blue Ridge Raiders on Tuesday night in their last home game of the regular season.  Six seniors will honored before the Varsity game, which is set to tip at approximately 7:30.

Home vs. Lackawanna Trail

Despite tallying 10 made three-pointers, the Sabers (4-12, 1-6) began the second half of Division IV play with a loss at the hands of the visiting Lackawanna Trail Lions on Thursday night by the score of 60-47.

Tyler Williams led the Sabers in scoring with 15 points, while Luke Falletta added 14 points.  Williams and Falletta also combined for 15 of the team's 26 rebounds.  Austin Felter scored 8 points and Kasey Burdick hit 2 three-pointers for his 6 points.

Brock Blodgett dropped in 13 points in the JV Sabers' 43-33 defeat.

The Sabers will travel to Carbondale on Saturday to take on the Chargers.  JV game time is set for 2:00 PM.

Home vs. Mountain View

Tyler Williams, Luke Falletta and Austin Felter combined for 5 three-pointers during the 1st quarter as the Sabers jumped out to a 21-14 lead on Thursday night, allowing them to set the tone in their home win against the visiting Mountain View Eagles.  The Sabers picked up their first division win of the season to improve their record to 4-11, 1-5 on the season.

Williams (15 points), Falletta (12 points) and Christian Miller (11 points) led the Sabers in double figures.

Garret Grausgruber tallied 8 points and Brock Blodgett scored 7 points in the JV's 37-24 loss.

The Sabers begin the second half of division play next Tuesday night at Forest City.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Blue Ridge

Luke Falletta scored a career-high 23 points, including 6 three-pointers on Tuesday night, but it was not enough as the Sabers dropped a 58-53 decision to the Blue Ridge Raiders in double overtime. The loss moves the Sabers season record to 3-11, 0-5.

Fellow tri-captain Austin Felter tallied 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while Tyler Williams scored 8 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.  Brady Towner scored 5 points and had 5 rebounds to go with 4 assists and Christian Miller added 6 points.

Brock Blodgett scored 6 points as the JV Sabers lost their game 44-13.

The Sabers concluded the first half of league play on Thursday night at home against the Mountain View Eagles.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Montrose

Brady Towner posted season highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Luke Falletta added 11 points and 7 rebounds, but it was not enough for the Sabers on Friday night as they fell to the Montrose Meteors 51-36.  With the loss, the Sabers record falls to 3-10, 0-4 on the season.

Christian Miller also pulled down 7 rebounds while Tyler Williams and Austin Felter combined for 9 steals.

Jack Avery's 7 points led the JV Sabers as they dropped their contest 57-25.

The Sabers will travel to Blue Ridge on Tuesday night to take on the Raiders.  JV game time is set for 5:00 PM.

Away vs. Elk Lake

The Sabers found themselves in a 16-2 hole after the 1st quarter on Tuesday night at Elk Lake, which proved too much to overcome as they fell to the Warriors by the score of 54-34.  The loss drops the Sabers record to 3-9, 0-3 on the season.  Tyler Williams scored 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.  Luke Falletta scored 7 points and Austin Felter tallied 6 points.

In the JV's 57-52 defeat, three Sabers tallied double figures in points, led by Brock Blodgett's 18 points.  Jack Avery scored 15 points and Eric Lee added 10 points.

The Sabers are off until Friday night when they host the Montrose Meteors.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Carbondale

Luke Falletta's last second shot was ruled a two-point attempt which proved to be the difference as the Sabers dropped a home contest on Friday night to the visiting Carbondale Chargers by a score of 40-39.  The shot was part of a furious final rally that saw the Sabers (3-8, 0-2) fight their way back from an 11 point deficit with two minutes to go.

Falletta scored 11 points, while Tyler Williams and Christian Miller combined for 20 points and 20 rebounds for the Sabers.  Brady Towner scored 8 points and Austin Felter led the team with 4 assists.
Garret Grausgruber tallied 10 points while Jack Avery and Eric Lee each scored 6 points in the JV Sabers' 46-28 defeat.

The Sabers will travel to Elk Lake on Tuesday night to take on the Warriors.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Forest City

Garret Grausgruber's season-high of 17 points were not quite enough to lead the JV Sabers to a victory on Thursday night in their home division opener against the Forest City Foresters.  Jack Avery also hit for 14 points in the 51-45 defeat.

Tyler Williams recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Christian Miller tallied 9 points as the Sabers dropped their second straight division game 58-28.  The loss drops the Sabers record to 3-7, 0-2 on the season.

The Sabers return to action on Friday night against the visiting Carbondale Chargers.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Lackawanna Trail

Jack Avery scored 5 points in the last minute to help the JV Sabers secure their second victory of the season over Lackawanna Trail on Tuesday night by the final score of 26-24.  His 12 points led the team, while Eric Lee chipped in with 7 points.

The varsity Sabers saw their season record slide to 3-6, 0-1 with a 54-32 loss at the hands of the Lions.  Tyler Williams scored 11 points and pulled down 5 rebounds.  Garret Grausgruber scored 8 points off the bench, and Austin Felter handed out 4 assists.  

The Sabers return to their home court on Thursday night as they take on the Forest City Foresters.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna County Holiday Tournament

The Susquehanna Sabers (3-5, 0-0) were able to secure a split of their games on December 26-27 in the Susquehanna County Holiday Tournament, which was held at Montrose Area High School.  On Friday, December 26th, the Sabers fell to the Elk Lake Warriors 66-50 and on Saturday, December 27th they defeated the Blue Ridge Raiders 45-44. 

Christian Miller recorded season-high totals of 15 points and 10 rebounds in the first round loss to Elk Lake.  Tyler Williams chipped in with 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Austin Felter added a team-high 4 assists. 

In the consolation game victory over Blue Ridge, Luke Falletta scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers to help the Sabers in their come from behind victory.  Tyler Williams' 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists landed him a spot on the all-tournament team.  Senior Brady Towner recorded season-highs of 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. 

The Sabers open Lackawanna League Division IV play on Tuesday, January 6th when they travel to Lackawanna Trail to take on the Lions.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.
