Away vs. Mountain View

Tyler Williams, Austin Felter, Brady Towner and Christian Miller combined to make 12-14 free throws in the 4th quarter on Monday night as the Sabers (2-4, 0-0) secured victory at Mountain View by the final score of 42-39.  Williams led the Sabers with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  Brady Towner ripped down 6 rebounds and Christian Miller record 6 steals. 

After trailing for more of the game, the JV Sabers made a second half comeback only to fall late to the Eagles 41-31.  Brock Blodgett record a game-high 15 points, while Garret Grausgruber tallied 11 points. 

The Sabers begin participation in the annual Susquehanna County Community Foundation Tournament on Friday, December 26th at Montrose High School against the Elk Lake Warriors.  Game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Away vs. ES-Notre Dame

On Saturday, the Sabers boys basketball teams suffered two lopsided losses at the hands of the ES-Notre Dame Spartans in games that were played at the University of Scranton.  The Sabers will travel to Mountain View on Monday night to take on the Eagles.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Wyoming Seminary

The Sabers dropped a pair of games on Wednesday night in Kingston at the hands of Wyoming Seminary.  The JV team fell short by the score of 41-27 and the varsity team could not rescue themselves from an early deficit, eventually losing by the score of 54-39. 

After falling behind 19-3, the Sabers (1-3, 0-0) were able to battle to within 8 points early in the fourth quarter.  Tyler Williams led the Sabers with 15 points and tied Luke Falletta for the team lead with 7 total rebounds.  Brady Towner tallied 6 rebounds while leading the team with 3 assists and Garret Grausgruber provided a scoring punch in the second quarter with back to back jumpshots and finished with 5 points. 

The JV Sabers faced a similar deficit before finding somewhat of an offensive rhythym in the second half.  Brock Blodgett scored 7 points to lead the team. 

The Sabers will travel to the University of Scranton on Saturday where they will face off against ES-Notre Dame.  JV game time is set for 12:00 noon.

Home vs. Northeast Bradford

Luke Falletta's 18 points and 7 rebounds, along with Tyler Williams' 14 points and a team high 9 rebounds, were enough to lead the Sabers (1-2, 0-0) to their first victory of the season on Saturday night over visiting Northeast Bradford 47-36. Austin Felter's 6 assist were a team high.

Jack Avery tallied 15 points, including 4 three-pointers, but it was not enough as the JV team dropped their second straight game 49-33.

The Sabers return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Wyoming Seminary. JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Away vs. Lakeland

Brock Blodgett's team-high 16 points were not quite enough as the JV Sabers dropped a tight game to the Lakeland Chiefs 55-50 on Monday night to even their season record at 1-1.  Jack Avery and Eric Lee both recorded their second straight double-digit scoring games to begin the season with 13 and 10 points respectively.  Garret Grausgruber chipped in with 9 points. 

Tyler Williams led the varsity Sabers (0-2, 0-0) with 12 points and 8 rebounds as they fell 58-34 in the nightcap.

The Sabers are off until Saturday night when they host the visiting Panthers of Northeast Bradford.  JV game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Home vs. Freedom Village

The Sabers boys basketball teams opened the 2014-2015 seasons with a split of their matchups on Saturday evening with the visiting Eagles of Freedom Village. 

The Sabers (0-1, 0-0) found themselves in an early 15-4 hole, but worked to claw their way back into the game before succumbing in a 61-47 loss to start their season.  Tyler Williams led the way with 17 points, while Luke Falletta chipped in with 12 points. 

Jack Avery's 15 points led the JV Sabers as they opened their season with a 52-42 victory.  Garret Grausgruber and Christian Burke each scored 11 points while Eric Lee contributed 10 points. 

The Sabers will travel to Lakeland on Monday night to take on the Chiefs.  JV game time is set for 5:30 PM.

Wyoming Area Scrimmage

The scrimmage at Wyoming Area on Saturday, November 22nd will begin at 12:00 PM.  The bus time is scheduled for 10:00 AM.  The scrimmage is closed to the public.  Thank you!

2014-2015

The 2014-2015 season officially begins on Monday, November 17th.  A parent/player/coaches meeting will be held on Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 PM in the high school gym to discuss rules and regulations for the season, as well as the schedule.  It is mandatory that all players planning on trying out for the team have a parent/guardian at the meeting.

Division All-Stars

Senior guard Josh Wheeler was chosen as a Lackawanna League Divison IV first team all-star by the Division IV coaches.  Josh averaged 11.7 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 points per game for the Sabers during the 2013-2014 season. 

He was joined on the all-star team by Elk Lake's Tanner Reyan and Matt Woolcock, Montrose's Cameron Dean and Lackawanna Trail's Ross Fauquier.

Susquehanna vs. MMI

The Susquehanna Sabers boys basketball team saw their 2013-2014 season come to end on Friday night at Berwick in a 44-35 loss to MMI.  The Sabers conclude their season with a 6-17 record.

Seniors Mark Zappe (12 points, 6 rebounds) and Josh Wheeler (11 points) led the Sabers as they worked to overcome a 13 point 4th quarter deficit by cutting the MMI led to 3 points with under a minute remaining.  In the end, it was not enough as the Sabers saw the end of the season. 

Junior Luke Falletta played a solid all-around game and finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists. 

Thank you to all of the parents, families, friends and community members who were able to provide support to the Sabers boys basketball team this season!  And to the five seniors--Josh Wheeler, Kyle MacDonald, Brandon Soden, Steve Frye and Mark Zappe--the Sabers boys basketball team wishes you all the best of luck in the future and thanks you for your contributions to the basketball program!

Susquehanna vs. Blue Ridge

Mark Zappe's 22 point, 12 rebound, 5 block effort led the Sabers to a regular season-ending 52-30 victory over the Blue Ridge Raiders on Friday night.  With the win, the Sabers finish their regular season with a 6-16, 3-9 record and will await to hear their opponent for the district playoffs which begins Friday, February 21st. 

Josh Wheeler added 13 points and 5 assists for the Sabers, while Christian Miller pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds. 

Tyler Williams scored 19 points, while Brady Towner added 10 for the JV Sabers in their 55-49 loss.  Kasey Burdick added 8 points. 

The Sabers will open the District II Class A Playoffs on Friday, February 21st against an opponent yet to be determined.

Susquehanna vs. Elk Lake

The Varsity Sabers played a good first half on Tuesday night at Elk Lake, but were not able to continue the solid play, dropping a 57-38 decision to the Warriors.  With the loss, the Sabers record fell to 5-16, 2-9 on the season.

Senior Brandon Soden led the Sabers with 15 points, shooting 5-7 from the field including 2 three-pointers.  Josh Wheeler contributed 8 points, while Christian Miller pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds.  Mark Zappe and Luke Falletta both tallied 7 rebounds. 

In the JV game, Garret Grausgruber led the Sabers with 14 points, while Tyler Williams added 13 points and Jack Avery scored 9 points in the 62-43 loss. 

The Sabers will conclude their regular season on Thursday night at Blue Ridge.  JV game time is set for 5:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Old Forge

On Friday night, the Sabers JV and Varsity basketball teams suffered two defeats at the hands of the Old Forge Blue Devils.  With the loss, the Varsity team's record fell to 5-15, 2-8 on the season.

Mark Zappe scored 14 points and pulled down 4 rebounds to lead the Sabers scoring effort.  Christian Miller chipped in with 9 points and 5 rebounds, while senior Kyle MacDonald knocked down two three-pointers and finished with 6 points.

Mountain View vs. Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Sabers ended their home regular season schedule on Tuesday night against the Mountain View Eagles, and dropped a 62-60 OT loss to bring their season record to 5-14, 2-8 on the season. 

Luke Falletta's three-pointer at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime tied at 51.  In overtime, a back and forth game saw another Falletta three-pointer give the Sabers the lead at 60-59, but a long three pointer by Mountain View's Chad Wescott at the buzzer left the Sabers defeated on Senior Night. 

Falletta's 18 points and 10 rebounds led the way, followed closely by senior Mark Zappe's 16 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow seniors Brandon Soden (11 points), Josh Wheeler (5 points, 8 assists) and Kyle MacDonald (3 points, 2 rebounds) finished their home playing careers. 

The JV team also finished their home schedule with a loss to the Eagles.  Kasey Burdick led the Sabers with 12 points.

Montrose vs. Susquehanna

On Saturday afternoon, the Susquehanna Sabers hosted the Montrose Meteors in the 6th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. 

Josh Wheeler's 12 points and Mark Zappe's 10 points and 7 rebounds were not enough as the Sabers (5-13, 2-7) dropped their game with the Meteors 59-43.  Luke Falletta added 9 points for the Sabers, who led 11-8 after the 1st quarter, but fell behind in the 2nd quarter and never recovered.

The JV Sabers dropped a 51-32 contest to the Meteors as Garret Grausgruber and Tyler Williams both tallied 8 points.

Susquehanna vs. Lackawanna Trail

The Sabers found themselves in an early 23-8 hole, but were able to respond with a late run that came up just short, as they dropped a 45-43 contest on Thursday night to the Lackawanna Trail Lions.  The loss drops the Sabers record to 5-12, 2-6 on the season.

The Sabers were led by Josh Wheeler's 17 points and 4 assists.  Mark Zappe scored 8 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.  Luke Falletta's 10 rebounds led the team. 

In the JV game, Brady Towner's 13 points were not enough as the Sabers lost 51-39.  Garrett Grausgruber added 9 points, while Jack Avery tallied 8 points.

The Sabers will host the Montrose Meteors on Saturday in their 6th annual Coaches vs. Cancer game.  JV game time is 1:00 PM.

Forest City vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers boys basketball teams began the second half of their league schedule on Tuesday night by dropping a pair of contests at home against the visiting Forest City Foresters. 

Tyler Williams scored a season-high 20 points, while Kasey Burdick and Garrett Grausgruber each added 12 points, but it was not enough as the JV team lost 55-46 to the Foresters. 

In the nightcap, Luke Falletta's 14 points, to go along with Mark Zappe and Josh Wheeler's 10 points apiece, were not enough as the Sabers dropped a 50-46 contest to the Foresters.  Wheeler's 6 assists led the team, and Zappe pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds and blocked 5 shots.

Blue Ridge vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers ended the first half of league play with a 62-44 victory over the visiting Blue Ridge Raiders on Tuesday night, behind 22 points from senior guard Josh Wheeler.  With the win, the Sabers improved their record to 5-10, 2-4 in league play. 

Wheeler made 4-5 from three point range and also handed out 3 assists.  Luke Falletta equaled Wheeler's total by also making four three-pointers and finished with 15 points and 3 assists.  Mark Zappe recorded 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, while Christian Miller also recorded double-digits in points with 10 and hauled in 6 rebounds.  Austin Felter (pictured) led the team with 7 assists.

The JV Sabers dropped a close game by the final score of 42-37.  Tyler Williams scored 16 points to led the Sabers.

Susquehanna at Northeast Bradford

Tyler Williams' free throw with 2 seconds remaining allowed the JV Sabers to pull ahead for good as they beat the Northeast Bradford Panthers by the score of 41-40 on Saturday night.  The win was the JV Sabers 2nd of the season.  Brady Towner led the team with 16 points, while Tyler Williams added 13 points.

Mark Zappe's 11 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks were not enough as the Sabers varsity team lost their 5th game in a row by the score of 46-40.  The loss brings the Sabers record to 4-10, 1-4 on the season. 

Josh Wheeler led the team with 13 points and Christian Miller pulled down 12 rebounds to go with his 6 points.

The Sabers will play host to the Blue Ridge Raiders on Tuesday night as they finish the first half of league play.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Elk Lake vs. Susquehanna

On Friday night, the Susquehanna Sabers built a 6 point halftime lead over the undefeated Elk Lake Warriors, only to see that advantage evaporate in the 2nd half, as the Sabers' record fell to 4-9, 1-4 on the year with a 70-53 loss. 

Mark Zappe put together a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks to lead the Sabers' effort.  Fellow senior Josh Wheeler scored a team-high 16 points, collected 5 steals and handed out 3 assists.  Luke Falletta also registered double figures with 11 points, while Christian Miller chipped in with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

The JV Sabers dropped also lost their game to the Warriors by the score of 68-42.  Jack Avery led the way with 15 points, which included 4 three-pointers.  Garret Grausgruber also reached double figures with 10 points.

Old Forge vs. Susquehanna

On Tuesday night, the Susquehanna Sabers welcomed the Old Forge Blue Devils to Susquehanna High School.  Unfortunately, the visiting Blue Devils walked away with two victories.

Christian Miller's 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals, along with Luke Falletta's 11 points and 8 rebounds, were not enough as the varsity Sabers fell 54-39 to bring their season record to 4-8, 1-3 on the year.  Mark Zappe 6 points and 7 rebounds, while Austin Felter handed out a team-high 5 assists.

The JV Sabers absorbed a tough loss, 62-21.  Jack Avery's 7 points led the team.

The Sabers' next contest will be Friday night, when they host the Elk Lake Warriors.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Mountain View

The Sabers JV and Varsity boys basketball teams dropped a pair of decisions to the Mountain View Eagles on Friday night at Mountain View High School. 

Mark Zappe's 12 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with fellow big man Christian Miller's 10 points and 13 rebounds, were not enough to offset a tough shooting night by the Sabers (4-6, 1-2) as they fell to the Eagles 50-36.  Luke Falletta also registered double figures for the Sabers, scoring 11 points to go with 4 rebounds and assists. 

The JV team found themselves in a hole at halftime, but played a courageous second half before falling to the Eagles 50-40.  Brady Towner led three Sabers in double figures with 13 points, while Tyler Williams added 11 points and Jack Avery scored 10 points.

The Sabers travel to Montrose tomorrow afternoon to take on the Meteors.  JV Game time is set for 4:00 PM with varsity to follow.

Susquehanna vs. Forest City

Mark Zappe's career-high 21 points, along with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks, led a strong effort by the Sabers on the road on Monday night as they secured a 58-54 victory over the Forest City Foresters. 

Zappe teamed with forwards Christian Miller (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Luke Falletta (13 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds) to score 45 of the Sabers' 58 points.  Josh Wheeler's 7 points and 6 assists, along with Austin Felter's 4 points and 3 assists, helped the Sabers move their record to 4-5, 1-1 on the season. 

In the JV contest, the Foresters scored a 45-24 victory over the Sabers.  Tyler Williams led the team with 10 points, while Brady Towner chimed in with 7 points.

The Sabers will travel to Montrose on Thursday night to take on the Montrose Meteors.  JV game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Lackawanna Trail vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers opened Lackawanna League Division IV play on Saturday afternoon by dropping both the JV and Varsity contests to the visiting Lackawanna Trail Lions.

Josh Wheeler tallied a team-high 12 points and 7 assists, Luke Falletta contributed 10 points and Mark Zappe scored 8 points and pulled down a team-high 6 rebounds, but it was not enough for Sabers (3-5, 0-1) as they came up short 51-43 against Trail. 

The JV team suffered a similar fate as they dropped a 41-23 game to open league play.  Brady Towner's 9 points led the team. 

The Sabers embark on a three game week on Monday, as they travel to Forest City to take on the Foresters.  JV game time is 6:00 PM.
