Montrose vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers varsity basketball team saw their record slip to 3-4, 1-0 on the season after suffering a 52-36 home loss to Montrose in the consolation game of the 2011 Susquehanna County Christmas tournament. 

Congratulations to Andrzej Tomczyk who led the Sabers with 12 points and was chosen to the all-tournament team.  Tomczyk joined Thomas Lewis (Montrose), Alex Cardoza (Blue Ridge), Matt Cuomo (Elk Lake) and Robert Heft (Elk Lake--MVP) on the all tournament team.



The Sabers are off until Tuesday, January 3rd when they resume division play at Blue Ridge.  JV game time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Elk Lake vs. Susquehanna

On Tuesday night at Susquehanna, the Sabers fell to the Elk Lake Warriors by the final score of 53-39 in the first round of the 2011 Christmas Tournament. 

In a game that was plagued by fouls and turnovers, the Sabers (3-3, 1-0) trailed 35-30 at the start of the 4th quarter, but couldn't cut into the deficit.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored 20 points to lead Susquehanna and also added 8 rebounds.  Austin Cowperthwait scored 9 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals and Dan Biegert chipped in with 6 points and a team high 11 rebounds.

The Sabers will take on the Montrose Meteors on Thursday afternoon in the consolation game.  Tip time is 3:30 PM.  Elk Lake will face Blue Ridge in the championship game at 7:30 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Forest City

The Susquehanna Boys Basketball team earned a split with the Forest City Foresters on Wednesday at Forest City.  The JV Team was in a close ball game until late in the 4th, when Forest City converted some free throws to earn a 37-27 victory.  Austin Felter led the Sabers with 7 points while Cody Towers added 5. 

In the nightcap, the varsity team earned a 52-33 victory, to improve to 3-2, 1-0 on the season.  Andrzej Tomczyk scored a career high 36 points and added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals.  Mark Zappe contributed 6 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. 

The Sabers are off until Tuesday, December 27th when they host Elk Lake as part of the Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament.  Game time is set for 7:30 PM.

Western Wayne vs. Susquehanna

The Sabers JV team suffered defeat on Friday night at the hands of the Western Wayne Wildcats.  The final score was 37-26.  The Sabers were led by sophomore Brandon Rafferty who scored 12 points. 

The Sabers varsity team bounced back from a tough performance at Mid Valley, to beat the Wildcats by the score of 62-46.  A great team effort contributed to the success of the Sabers.  Andrzej Tomczyk (27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals), Dan Biegert (11 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, 4 assists) and Austin Cowperthwait (9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals) led the way. The Sabers also got 10 points from sophomore big man Mark Zappe. 

The Sabers will begin division play on Wednesday, December 21st when they travel to Forest City to play the Foresters.  JV Game time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Mid Valley

The Sabers endured a rough trip to Mid Valley on Wednesday night, with both teams having a difficult time finding an offensive flow. 

The Sabers return to action on Friday night at home against Western Wayne.  JV Game time is set for 6:00 PM.

Mountain View vs. Susquehanna

Both the Sabers JV and Varsity teams saw their season records fall to 1-1 as each team lost close games on Tuesday night against the Mountain View Eagles.

In the JV game, the Sabers dug themselves out of an early hole and had a chance to tie in the finals seconds, but a three point attempt was no good.  Kyle MacDonald scored 15 points and Brandon Rafferty added 13 in the 46-43 loss.

The Varsity team let a lead slip away, eventually falling to the Eagles by the score of 60-56.  Andrzej Tomczyk led the Sabers with 32 points and Dan Biegert added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Sabers return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Mid Valley to face the Spartans.  JV Game time slated to begin at 6:00 PM.

Susquehanna vs. Afton

The Susquehanna Boys Basketball teams began their season on Friday night against the Afton Knights.  Both the JV and Varsity teams pulled out victories to begin their season 1-0.  The JV team was led by freshmen Luke Falletta (12 points-pictured) and sophomore Kyle MacDonald (11 points) as they pulled out a 42-32 victory. 




In the nightcap, the varsity team jumped out to a large lead through three quarters, eventually gaining a 61-43 victory to start their season.  Andrzej Tomczyk (pictured) scored 27 points to go along with 10 steals and Brandon Soden chipped in with 11 points, going a perfect 7-7 at the foul line.



The Sabers are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Mountain View in their home opener.  JV game time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

2011-2012 Season Tips Off

The Sabers boys basketball team will begin the 2011-2012 season on Friday, December 9th at Afton Central School District.  The JV game will begin at 5:00 PM, with the varsity game beginning approximately 20 minutes after that game concludes.  For parents and fans who plan on attending, Afton High School's address is 29 Academy Street, Afton, NY 13730.
